How adverts get their message across

There are variouse different techniques used to get the message across in advertising today. By the end of the advert the viewers should clearly understand and know what it is that is being advertised. So it is important that they get this message across clearly.

Starting with the most basic type of advertising, some adverts simply show a picture or video of the product and either verbally, text based or both, tell you what the product is and what it does. This is a cheap simple and time efficiant way of getting a product advertised. On the down side it is not the most effective way to embed a message into the minds of the public, nor the best way to intruige and exite veiwers into wanting to go out and buy, see etc the product.

In order to really catch the publics eye and interest advertisers need to think outside the box and consider techniques such as viral marketing, shock tactics etc.

For exsample the advert were they had the little girl smashed up against a tree by a speeding motorist, all bruised and bloody and then reversed the motions of her being killed to the point where she come back to life again. This is shock tactics at its best and really engages you and shocks you into reallising the consequenses that could and do occure by speeding motorists.

Advertisers have to really consider their audiance, age group and type of people that they are trying to sell a product to. If they were advertising a new brand of trainers for instance, they would have to think of their buyers and the most effective way to grab the interest of those potencial buyers. A new brand of trainers would much more likely to be of interest to the more younger, stylish and modern generation ( 12 - 30 years of age). I dont think having a middle aged man, moddelin the trainers whilst walking his dog is quite gonna cut it. They will be advertising in much more of a young, energetic way with a youg fashionable model etc.

Cadburys avert, Gorrila Critique

The general idea of the cadburys advert is simple, to demonstrate the pleasures of Cadburys chocolate. For example the drumming Gorrila advert. This instantly the moment you see a Gorrila on a drum kit intruiges and exites you and makes you want to keep watching, which of course is vital in advertising. Along with the gentle Phil Collins song building its self up for the drums to kick in and the smooth calming purple coloured suroundings of the set, this all gives of a sence of calmness. Then of course with the big hairy Gorrila preparing himself for his Q on the drums, puts a big smile on your face and even after watching this advert sever times over, never fails to draw you in to this amasing and fullfilling advert.

So basically this advert is not trying to show you some sort of complicated logic or scientific explanation of Cadburys, this is not the purpose of the advert. It is simply trying to tell you that Cadburys dairy milk chocolate is an amasing delightfull experiance that wont fail to put a smile on your face.

The advertising campaign for this advert was pretty large. The advert and campaign was created and directed by Juan Cabral. The £6.2 million campaign ranged from T.V. ads, billboards, cinema, newspapers and magazines and since its release on 31st of august 2007 has been aired in numerous countries worldwide. Also the ad was a massive hit on youtube.

Red Bull gives you wings

Advert critique

The Red Bull advert uses comedy to get the point across to veiwers that Red Bull gives you wings. Obviously we all know that Red Bull does not actually give you wings, but this is not the real message being put across here.

The advert is done as an animation, its a very sketchy and deliberately rough looking pencil animation. It starts with an oldish lookin man walking along the invisible road with his suitcase in hand, quite happily until along comes a bird that decides to crap on his shoulder. The man is obviously not happy about this and so pulls a can of Red Bull out of his suitcase, which ofcourse gives him a set of wings. He then flies up over the top of the bird and decides to return the favour by taking the liberty of having a wee on the bird. Then upcomes a picture of the Red Bull can and the writing and vocals ''Red Bull gives you wings''.

So the message being put forward here is not that you will maraculasly grow a pair of wings and fly off into the sunrise, but instead trying to put forward more of a scientific explanation of what the drink has the potencial of doing once consumed. This is that being an energy drink of physical and mental abillity, once consumed you will be able to achieve the impossible. Or atleast achieve more than you normally would be able to in a mental and physical way due to the energetic enhancements of Red Bull.

This is a great little advert, short sweat and to the point, whilst at the same time making you laugh.

Treatment of my final Advert idea.

The camera will zoom into the sleepy mans face. He stands there in a daze for a few seconds before realising he needs something to wake himself up with. The camera will zoom out to a mid body shot and follow him as he stageres around the corner to the shop door, all that can be heard is the relaxing sounds of a childs lullaby and the ocasional grunt coming from the sleepy man. The camera then switches to a point of veiw shot of the sleepy mans hand reaching and opening the shop door, he walks in. The camera doesnt follow him inside the shop but instead will wait outside with the shop door in full veiw. The man will emerge from the shop, still looking extremely tired. The camera will zoom in to an extreme close up of the can which he has in his hand. It will be a can of Relentless energy drink. It will then zoom back out to a mid body shot of the man as you will hear sound of him cracking open the can. He takes a few swiggs....... The camera switches back to a closeup of the mans face as his eyes widen. The music will all of a sudden change to a fast paced heavy metal song. The camera will then go to an over shoulder close up as he will then run of down the road as the song will build up tempo.
Then the camera will switch for the last time, this time it will be set as a long shot as the now very much awake man comes charging towards the camera. He will stop just short of the camera and proceed with his wide awake head bangin. The camera will freeze on the mans crazzy and alert face whilst the Relentless energy can will apear beside his face.
